In 2023, Heather from Dark Tales released Dark Tales of Lost Leichhardt, the dark and true crime history of one of Sydney's oldest suburbs. It was stimulated by seeing a media article about the shops closing on Norton Street. From that point Heather became committed to unlocking the tales the suburbs across Sydney's Inner West have to tell, to give people a new way to navigate what they see everyday, and visitors to Sydney a new way to engage with the harbour city.
Leichhardt lies five kilometres to the west of Sydney city centre in New South Wales, Australia. Named after Ludwig Leichhardt, the doomed explorer, it came into being as a municipality in 1873, but the tales this suburb has to tell go back way further.
Find out about the highway woman on Parramatta Road, the robbery gang who duped a delivery driver with a fake shopfront, the curious case of the murder at Ramsay's Bush, the bodies still buried beneath a surprising location and much, much more.
So please step in and immerse yourself in a world that lies underneath the everyday in the inner west of Sydney.
